Speaker: Jonathan Alward, Director, Provincial Affairs, Manitoba Canadian Federation of Independent Business:
Jonathan Alward is the Director of Provincial Affairs for the Manitoba branch of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB). In this role, he leads the Federation’s legislative agenda and serves as the government lobbyist and media spokesperson for CFIB’s 4,800 Manitoba small and medium-sized business members. Jonathan pays special attention to such matters as government spending and taxes, workers’ compensation, labour laws, banking and financing matters.
Prior to joining CFIB, Jonathan worked for a Federal Cabinet Minister for five years. His responsibilities included undertaking extensive research on Parliamentary Bills, community development projects, and case files for constituents and local businesses. He also managed a number of stakeholder relationships at the municipal, provincial and federal government levels.
Jonathan grew up in an entrepreneurial family and understands the challenges and opportunities faced by small business owners.
